Offshore wind plays an essential role in the Dutch Energy Agreement, but for it to become cost competitive, the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCoE) needs to be reduced significantly. Over the last couple of years offshore wind has developed from onshore turbines being enlarged for offshore use. This has resulted in heavy turbines, with large drive trains needing heavy structures to be erected offshore at significant cost.

The main objective of The DOT development is to reduce the LCoE of offshore wind turbine technology by significantly reducing the capital and operational expenses. DOT BV focusses hereby on the drive train technology as well as the foundation interface, not only replacing components in a single wind turbine but simplifying a complete wind farm.

Short description of activities
To prove the DOT working principles we want to test the wind turbine in real life conditions. Although the system is designed for offshore locations the choice is made to start the wind turbine test inshore to keep costs down and make sure all checks are done before going offshore.
The DOT Inshore Test project is divided into five work packages (WPs):
- WP1: Preparation of windturbine & Inshore location
- WP2: Installation & Commissioning
- WP3: Inshore tests
- WP4: Decommissioning
- WP5: Detailed analysis & publication of results
