Prototype Test Zbridge at Offshore Windfarm

Publieke samenvatting / Public summary

Background
A performance test of the Zbridge (an access bridge for offshore constructions) at an offshore wind turbine is of ultimate importance for its acceptance and the implementation of the system in installation- and maintenance-procedures of future offshore wind farm projects. The Zbridge system itself contributes to cost reduction as it facilitates the transfer of persons and/or materials and equipment at lower rates (vessel + unit) in a larger weather window compared to present systems.

Objective
The objective of this project is the validation of the Zbridge system mounted on a supply- or carrier vessel through the intermediate steps; test in harbour, test at a coastal location and finally testing offshore in wind farm Luchterduinen. The project is set up to provide knowledge to build the first commercial Z-bridge systems.

Short description of activities
Mobilisation of vessel and install Zbridge on test frame on the deck of the vessel.

  • Mobilise and install test provisions on one of the Luchterduinen offshore turbines
  • Testing phase 1: Zbridge basic performance in harbour.
  • Testing phase 2: basic performance in open coastal wave environment
  • Testing phase 3: performance in actual wind farm environment ( Luchterduinen )

Results
The test gave information on the following topics:

  • Learning/experiencing the operation of the system on a moving vessel
  • Develop capabilities /know-how in adjusting its performance
  • Finding generic rules regarding vessel movement versus compensation performance
