Environmental study into the options for re-using condensate
Publieke samenvatting / Public summary
Aanleiding
Delamine B.V. aims to actively participating in the energy transition by substantially decreasing CO2 emissions and minimizing energy wastage linked to ethylene amine production, an important chemical for a plethora of applications. Despite the existing high level of heat integration in the process, a considerable amount of heat is still dissipated through cooling towers and air coolers, some of which is also released. This is predominantly due to the exothermic nature of the reaction occurring in the process. Consequently, the facility currently ousts a significant amount of recoverable heat. Through the implementation of an electrified mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) in our operations, we recognize an opportunity to enhance the energy efficiency of our process. Implementing an MVR enables us to optimize our process, resulting in a 25% reduction in steam consumption during ethylene amine production, and to convert wasted heat into useful energy. This not only aligns with Delamine's internal climate goals but also contributes to national and European climate targets.
Doelstelling
The project's aim is to conduct a feasibility study to determine the most suitable electrified MVR system for efficient integration into the facility for ethylene amine production. The introduction of such an MVR system will enable the conversion of residual process heat into useful energy, preventing its wastage. This study will cover the necessary civil and electrical modifications required for facility adaptation and equipment integration. Implementing MVR will involve adjustments to the current process, both in terms of electrical and structural aspects, which will be identified through this study. Moreover, the goal is to confirm the anticipated reductions in CO2 emissions and energy consumption.
Korte omschrijving
This environmental assessment will allow the identification of the optimal MVR for integration into the ethylene amine production process. Additionally, a basic engineering study will be conducted to evaluate the necessary civil and electrical modifications needed for the integration of the MVR. An analysis will be carried out to quantify the heat that can be converted into useful energy, simultaneously evaluating the reliability of the projected reduction in CO2 emissions associated with the process. Ultimately, an evaluation of the anticipated investment will enable the calculation of essential financial indicators for informed investment decision-making.
Resultaat
The intended result of this basic engineering and environmental study is to enable a sound decision to proceed to the selection of the electrified MVR system and its implementation in the ethylene amine process developed by Delamine. A positive decision would result in proceeding to the detailed engineering phase and ultimately the implementation of the MVR system at the facility site.
