CAGE
Composite casing and the Acceleration of Geothermal Energy
Publieke samenvatting / Public summary
Aanleiding
Despite the huge potential the exploitation of geothermal energy is still very limited. This is mainly due to the high costs and severe risks of deep drilling operations, which also make the funding of these projects more difficult.
Doelstelling
The CAGE project has the objective to install an innovative geothermal doublet as a demonstration of a new shallow Geothermal Energy (GE) concept that will lead to profitable geothermal energy and contribute to the acceleration and wider use of this highly sustainable source of energy.
Korte omschrijving
The project is focussed on the installation of an innovative 1.3 km deep full-composite GE doublet at the Gipmans glasshouse horticulture company near Venlo, The Netherlands, where all the developed technologies will be demonstrated.
Resultaat
Total cost savings will be 20-25%, while the productivity of the well will improve 200-300%.
